“Stevie Ray, Joe Cocker rolled into one.”

— A Fan

Bio

Rickey Gene Flippin

Born November, 14th 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee.  Rick's style of music is a unique blend of vintage blues, country, southern rock, funk, and pop. With a few songs, he can have people dancing on the bar, crying in their beer or taking up arms to fight against corruption.  Rick tells the story of how he once used his music to control a fight that had broken out in a bar; without missing a beat he improvised a song that immediately calmed the atmosphere in the room and took full control of the crowd.  He has played in venues such as the House of Blues in San Diego, headlined in festivals from the East to West Coast and played in every honky tonk bar in between.  His live shows will make you feel like you are truly part of something special.

Raised by a single mother in and around Nashville, Tennessee, Rick, at an early age, was mesmerized by music.  His mom was a server at the famed Tootsies Orchid Lounge back in the day when stars like Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline frequented the establishment. As a rambunctious child, he was handed a guitar, some speculate to keep him occupied and out of trouble; he was hooked from the first moment he touched it.

In the mid 80's, Rick joined an all black cover band, as lead guitar.  He contributes much of his off-the-cuff style of playing to his fellow band mates who frequently switched beats in mid-song to change up the mix and test out a new style of music that was just on the forefront called "rap.”  The band had some success during it's brief tenure before jobs, family and other personal obligations became more pressing.

It would be another several years before Rick was back playing live shows around Tennessee.  By this time, Rick was writing and producing his own songs.  He had a local following and frequently collaborated with other artists throughout the Southeast. With ties to San Diego, Rick started gaining traction on the West Coast.  As a self-proclaimed hillbilly, Rick was cultivating a new following for fans in search of something new and authentic.

After another unexpected hiatus from the music scene, Rick is not finished telling his story.  He is back in full force and will soon be releasing his new 3 song EP, Crazy Place, as well as a remix of his earlier works by Flippin and the Fingers (check out the music page for your free download)!
